Joel McMurry

PhD Candidate - University of Wisconsin-Madison Economics

Welcome. I am a PhD student in the Department of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I study labor and family economics, with a particular focus on child development and the determinants of parental investments in the human capital of their children. My interests also include education, health, and household finance. As an applied microeconomist, I adopt a variety of methodological approaches, including both structural and design-based econometrics, and I spend much of my days thinking about the mapping between the two. Before moving to the Badger State, I worked in litigation consulting at Analysis Group, Inc. in Chicago and then studied math at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I hold an A.B. in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Chicago and an M.S. in Economics from Wisconsin.
